All Quiet on the Western Front (2nd to last blog)

Towards the end of the book Paul returns to the front where the war is going on. He fights for a while, and his father and sister come to visit him there. All they talk about is their mother who is still suffering from cancer. Paul feels awful about how he has to stay at the front, which leads to him doubting the war and he eventually just hates it. Also Paul offers to go into no man's land to see if they are planning something secret, however it turns out into a battle, and Paul hides in a hole throughout the battle and has to kill his first victim face to face. After this he feels awful and can't stand being in the war, or the war itself. I think that this part of the book is kinda like the falling action cuz the end is near you can feel like for Paul and his war efforts, however there is still much left to be told for the story to end right.

all quiet on the western front blog 7

After the battle, Paul is given an 18 day leave. He has also met a women who lives on the other side of the canal, but it becomes nothing serious. But during his leave he goes back to his hometown to find out that his mother has cancer. In the end of the chapter he wishes that he had never come back home. He believes that is just made is harder to go back and leave his mother. I predict that the next chapter Paul will become a higher soldier than he is now, maybe leautenant.

all quiet on the western front

I read the sixth chapter, and this chapter was around the climax of the book. The author really talks about the action going on in the war. Paul talks about how he left one dugout to go to another and it had been bombed, and so he returned back and that one had also caved in. I think that throughout the next two chapters it is gonna be much like this one, with a lot of action going on in the battlefield. I also predict that one of Paul's friends is gonna die in a few chapters.

all quiet on the western front blog 5

In the chapter that i read the army is stationed at a camp, and sergeant Himmelstos comes to their camp. Tjaden strongly despises Himmelstos and when Himmelstos asks tjaden to stand, tjaden simply stays seated. Because of this Himmelstos tries to punish tjaden, but tjaden stays hidden. None of the other men decide to tell Himmelstos where Tjaden is hiding, then later they are sent to court. In court the judge decides that Himmelstos' behavior needs to be calmed, and tjaden and kropp who was with him are lightly punished. This is important because it gives the reader a feel of how awful Himmelstos really is. I think the author decided to have this as a full chapter because it gives the reader a good feel for the scene.
